Christian Teen Dating

Dating as a Christian teen is an exciting, confusing activity full of emotions, hard knocks and learning experiences. It's a great thing for Christian teens to get out there and date around but a little caution is in good order. Dating exposes teenagers to a lot of emotions and tempations they aren't used to dealing with. Having a good support network will help them navigate the sometimes treacherous seas of the dating game.

It's a good thing to date as a teenager because it's a great way to learn about dealing with relationships and the emotions they bring in a healthy manner. Dating is a totally new experience for teenagers so the most important thing is that they have a healthy support network of friends and family.

Christian teens also have to face the dilemma of keeping a moral lifestyle while at the same time dealing with the pressures of society and peers. These pressures can be significant with teenagers constantly asking each other things like "how far have you been?" and it being cool to have sex before marriage and with multiple partners. It takes a strong heart to stay true to your beliefs in these matters but it can certainly be done and is very rewarding when done in the confines of marriage.

The biggest issue is always going to be pre-marital sex. Some Christians condone it and others don't, however it is against God's commands to give in and have pre-marital sex. Teenagers occasionally do stupid things (we all do) but the consequences for having sex before marriage can last a lifetime and affect many more people than just you. Unfortunately the world around us promotes that it's a common, perfectly normal activity.

Avoid Temptation

There are several things you can do to take away some of the pressure of sex. The biggest of these is to let your date know of the boundaries if she or he tries to cross them. If you ever find yourself dating someone who doesn't respect your boundaries, don't be afraid to end the relationship. A breakup might hurt in the short term, but relationships without respect never work out in the long run.

It also helps to go out to public places on dates. You know, do normal dating activities like movies and miniature golf. If you go out on double dates with friends it can be even more fun while keeping the pressure to a minimum. The good thing about double dates is that if the date goes sour you can usually make a graceful exit without abandoning your date all alone.

If you stick to dating Christians, it can prevent some of these problems from coming up in the first place. Not only will you have more in common but your shared morals and values will make it easier to make good decisions. This doesn't mean it will always be easy, but it will be easier. Putting yourself in the wrong situations can really spark temptation.

And last, when you're out there dating as a teenager, remember that it's just dating. Have fun and don't worry about all the expectations and pressure that other people try to put on you. Have fun with it and use your dating experiences to learn about yourself and what you want in a partner.
